Dental Issues

📞 Call NHS 111 if you experience severe tooth or gum pain and cannot reach your regular dentist.

🦷 If you have a regular dentist, contact them first for emergency treatment.

🦷 If you don’t have a regular dentist or develop a problem outside normal working hours, dial 111 to be triaged by a dental nurse, who will advise you on the best course of action. If necessary, they will help you book an appointment with an emergency dentist.

💷 Urgent dental treatment costs £14.30, unless you are exempt from NHS charges. You must provide proof of exemption at your appointment.

Toothache alone is NOT a dental emergency. Patients with toothache only should NOT visit A&E.

Dental emergencies include:
Bleeding from a recent surgical site that won’t stop (e.g., after tooth extraction)
Severe swelling causing difficulty breathing or swallowing
Trauma to teeth or jaw due to an accident
