Mental Health Support – NHS 111 Option 2
If you or someone you care about is experiencing a mental health crisis, you can call NHS 111 and select Option 2 to speak directly with a team of mental health professionals within your health board. This service is available 24/7 and provides confidential support, guidance, and appropriate referrals.
Who Can Use This Service?
The 111 Option 2 mental health service is available to:
- Anyone experiencing a mental health concern.
- Family members, friends, or carers worried about a loved one’s mental well-being.
How Can This Service Help?
When you call 111 and choose Option 2, trained professionals can:
- Assess your situation and provide immediate support.
- Offer guidance on managing worsening mental health symptoms.
- Direct you to appropriate services for further care.
- Provide advice if you or someone you know has self-harmed but is not in immediate danger.
- Support individuals experiencing domestic violence or abuse.
Need Urgent Help?
If you have been given a Crisis Line number by a healthcare professional, you should call it immediately.
If you are under the care of a mental health team and have a personal care plan, follow the instructions on who to contact for urgent support.
When to Call 111 Option 2
You should call 111 and select Option 2 if:
- You have an existing mental health condition and your symptoms are worsening.
- You are experiencing a mental health issue for the first time.
- Someone has self-harmed but does not require emergency care.
- A person is showing signs of dementia and requires assistance.
- You or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence or any form of abuse.
This service is completely free and can be accessed from both mobile phones (even without credit) and landlines.
